Caravan Carpark Films and Stella Maris Productions are proud to announce that When Bob Came has been awarded Best Factual Series at the 2023 New Zealand Television Awards, held at Auckland’s Viaduct Events Centre on 5 December 2023.

This recognition is a significant milestone for both companies and for everyone involved in bringing When Bob Came to life - a series that revisits Bob Marley’s transformative 1979 concert in Aotearoa and the lasting cultural impact it had on the country. Through archival footage, first-hand accounts and contemporary reflections, the series examines how one night of music became a spark for unity, protest and identity across generations.

Produced by Stella Maris Productions in association with Caravan Carpark Films, When Bob Came was celebrated for its authenticity, craft and cultural resonance. The project represents the type of work we aspire to create - grounded in history, shaped by community and driven by a belief in the power of storytelling to connect and endure.

The 2023 New Zealand Television Awards recognized excellence across 37 categories, with The Gone winning Best Drama, No Māori Allowed taking Best Documentary and Taskmaster NZ named Best Entertainment Program. The ceremony, hosted by Kura Forrester, showcased the strength and diversity of New Zealand’s screen industry and the storytellers leading it forward.
