We’re proud to celebrate our producer Angela Cudd, who was nominated for the Hinterland Woman to Watch Award at the 2024 WIFT NZ Awards, held on Thursday 29 February 2024 at St Matthew-in-the-City in Tāmaki Makaurau.

The Woman to Watch category shines a spotlight on emerging female producers and creatives who are shaping the future of Aotearoa’s screen industry. Angela was recognised alongside an inspiring lineup of finalists — Abba-Rose Vaiaoga-Ioasa, Mia-Marama Henry-Teirney and Morgan Leigh Stewart - for her distinctive voice, creative leadership and commitment to storytelling that uplifts Māori and Kiwi perspectives.

On the night, the award was presented to Abba-Rose Vaiaoga-Ioasa, whose body of work continues to champion Pasifika stories on screen. Being named among this group of wāhine toa was an honor in itself and a testament to Angela’s growing influence within the industry.

Angela’s producing credits include Uproar - a powerful coming-of-age feature about a teenager finding his voice during the 1981 Springbok Tour - and When Bob Came, a documentary series exploring Bob Marley’s legendary 1979 concert in Aotearoa and the movement it inspired.

The night also recognized many other outstanding talents. Desray Armstrong received the South Pacific Pictures Award for Achievement in Film; Chelsea Winstanley won the Imagezone Entrepreneurship Award; Carly Turner was honored with the Images & Sound Award for Success in Television and Digital; and Mihingarangi Forbes took home the Te Māngai Pāho Te Reo Māori Champion Award.

Hosted by WIFT NZ, the evening was a vibrant celebration of the women driving the screen sector forward - producers, directors, editors, and storytellers whose work continues to redefine what New Zealand cinema can be.
