Congratulations to Angela Cudd - 2024 SPADA Independent Producer of the Year
We are proud to celebrate Angela Cudd, who has been named the 2024 SPADA Independent Producer of the Year.
This recognition highlights her outstanding work across film, television and digital media, and her dedication to elevating Māori and Kiwi stories, nurturing emerging talent and strengthening Aotearoa’s independent screen sector.
Angela’s producing credits include the feature film Uproar, a coming-of-age story about a 17-year-old torn between his family’s rugby legacy and his own voice during the turbulent 1981 Springbok Tour. Uproar premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2023 and was one of the highest grossing NZ films in 2023/2024. Other notable credit includes the award-winning documentary series When Bob Came, which revisits Bob Marley’s legendary 1979 concert in Aotearoa and its enduring cultural impact.
In just a few years, Angela has established herself as a bold creative force - a producer who combines artistry with vision and whose slate of work reflects culture, identity and powerful storytelling.
Previous winners of the SPADA Independent Producer of the Year include New Zealand screen legends Ainsley Gardiner, Cliff Curtis, Chelsea Winstanley and Taika Waititi.
The 26th SPADA Screen Industry Awards were held on 10 October 2024, celebrating excellence across New Zealand’s screen sector. The night also honored Andrew Shaw, recipient of the SPADA Industry Champion Award for his decades of service and advocacy, and Jason Taylor, who received the Emerging Producer Award, with Joyce Wong as the runner-up.
Please join us in celebrating Angela’s achievement - a win not just for her, but for the wider creative community she continues to uplift and inspire.
